Hôtel Héliot, Cosy Places by Charme & Caractère

The owner was extremely accommodating and welcoming. The room was spacious, comfortable and lovely. The location was amazing with abundant public transportation, shopping and restaurants within walking distance. We were only there for one night but would love to return again soon.

Very welcome reception, Frederick was helpful and informative about all aspects of the hotel and the neighbourhood. The hotel is very basic though there is a kettle and coffee and tea in the bedroom. I would highly recommend adding a bar and a bathmat in the shower as the tub is very slippery and certainly for older or less agile folks it felt dangerous getting in and out and I slipped and banged my knee rather badly. Also to be noted is the shower itself which, while I applaud the conservation meaures, feels more like a gentle mist rather than something that gets you well rinsed. The room we had was rather dark and the windows don't open, there is only airconditioning which I'm sure would be welcome in summer but felt very claustrophic in October. There are rooms on three floors but no lift which again, is fine if you don't mind the stairs. I can't fault the location, very central and easy to walk virtually everywhere and steps away from the aiport bus which stops right at Jean Jaures. Hotel prices in Toulouse appear to be fairly expensive so be prepared to pay more for something on the average scale.

Friendly reception, clean tidy room and firm beds

Secure parking a block down the street. Staff was super helpful and fantastic. Very close to metro easy walking distance to center. Rooms are comfortable and spacious.

The hotel is lovely and nicely situated. The Aéroport bus is right around the corner as well. Be aware there is no lift.

A clean and comfortable small hotel in an ideal location for exploring Toulouse. The people were friendly and helpful. Would stay there again.

The management is wonderful! Very delightful, very French hotel. Big room. We were taken care of like long, lost children. I will always smile when I think of Heliot. Its location is very useful for wandering the old town, but also about 10 minutes walk to the train station (But it is not in a 'train station' kind of neighborhood). If you have a car, let them know ahead of time to arrange parking.

For my stay in Toulouse I initally booked a different hotel that I found out later was part of a global chain. I didn't want that, so I changed to Hôtel Héliot. I had read some nice reviews and it was recommended in an online travel article. It did not disappoint; I enjoyed my three-night stay. Hôtel Héliot is a boutique hotel that is family-run. The man running the hotel was always pleasant and personable, and very attentive. My room was a good size, with bedroom nook, living area with hide-a-bed sofa if needed, and a fairly large bathroom. This was unique, in my experience, for a boutique hotel. The hotel is next to a Metro stop which made it really convenient when traveling by train. It is only a several minutes from the main tourist area, numerous dining and shopping options. Also, Marché Victor Hugo is nearby if you want to pick up fresh fruit, vegetables, meats and cheese. And if you like buttery, flakey croissants I really liked the ones at Les Frères Chapelier, two long blocks away. Overall Hôtel Héliot is a pleasant and convenient place to stay to enjoy Toulouse.

Amazing location

The location is amazing. The bedrooms feel a bit dated but are clean. Bathrooms renovated. Absolutely charming host, very helpful. Overall, I would absolutely stay here again if I go back to Toulouse

The owner of this hotel goes out of his way to ensure an enjoyable stay. Beds are comfortable. Easy access to train, sights, dining and metro. Very clean.

Perfect

I booked this hotel because of its proximity to the center of town and our rental car pick-up location. We found it to be well-serviced and clean. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful with recommendations. We will stay again next time in Toulouse.

No elevator but to be expected in an old building. Room was good. Personnel friendly. They have parking but someone has to go with you every time you go to the car in order to unlock the gate. Area was good. Walked to lots of shopping.

Even though this is a 3 star hotel, you still have some expectations. The furniture and walls have obvious damage (holes on the walls) that need to be fixed. There is no functional safe in the room (there is physically one in the room it just does not work) because and I quote: the hotel is a safe space. The telephone in the room does not function because and I quote again: people do not use it anymore The location is good if you visiting the downtown core, the room was made promptly and the staff was friendly but for me is a hard pass in the future

Absolutely wonderful experience! The hotel was lovely and in an excellent location. They were very warm and welcoming. I highly recommend!!

My arrival was delayed beyond my control and they said no checkins after 10pm and said they were holding half the full rate as deposit even though I was only going to be less than 1 hour late. As a result I had to scramble around looking for a last minute hotel. Even if it is their policy, they need to have some judgement in cases like this.

Proprietor is wonderful!

Cosy is a very good way of describing it, down to the "night watchman' cat. The staff were friendly and helpful in some way every day. I was given a very comfortable, and much larger than expect room which I enjoyed very much.

I was happy to have found Hotel Heliot. It is well situated, clean and comfortable. The staff are very helpful and pleasant, and make you feel at home .

Poor breakfast

There was no elevator in the hotel, so that I had to struggle carrying my heavy luggage upstairs and downstairs. Morning buffet was much poor than what I expcted.

great location

a great location right in the middle of town, easy access to everything a tourist would enjoy at a good price point. Perfect if you are a traveller who wants the convenience and only needs the hotel to be basic+ if you're looking for a more upscale setting, then there are several others nearby (higher price point). The double room has the two twin beds within a foot of each other, so that is something to note.

Lovely Family Run Hotel

Delightful family run hotel. The owners are very warm and welcoming, and their cat keeps guard over the front entry. The rooms quite large by European standards. Heat worked fast and well (needed for cold Dec morning and nights). Nice continental breakfast with a choice of plain or chocolate croissant, orange juice, yoghurt and coffee/tea/chocolate. The hotel is also only a one bloke walk from the Aeroport bus stop.

Excellent value! Attentive host.

The hotel is in an easy location to the Toulouse shopping and dining experience. It is an easy walk to see the beautiful cathedrals and the river views (20 minute stroll). The manager (owner?) speaks excellent English and is very helpful and friendly. I would recommend and I would stay here again.

Friendly and Spacious Hotel in Convenient Location

We were there for only one night, but our stay was made all the better by the graciousness of the manager, the tasty breakfast, and the comfortable and spacious accomodations. The hotel is conveniently located to the train station and the capitol center area. We highly recommend this hotel.

Excellent location. Hotel is comfortable and the Inn keeper is wonderful. One tip to give. It is a three story walk up so keep that in mind.

Hotel Heliot was as delightful as Toulouse

Really enjoyed Hotel Heliot, the location was excellent and the hotel team really made us feel welcome and were readily available to provide information. The ambiance of the small hotel fit nicely into the neighborhood and the decor of our room was sensitive to the old structure.

We had a lovely two nights at the Hotel Heliot, with a friendly welcome, spotless, quiet rooms and a very useful early check-in. The hotel is very close to a metro station and bus stops, with the Capitol an easy 10 minute stroll.

Great little hotel

We stayed in a number of small hotels in our recent trip to France and this was by far the nicest. The rooms in French hotels are generally very small but our room here was good sized (as was the bathroom; a rarity). It was cute and homey. It's a family run hotel and the man who is the main contact is literally one of the nicest people I've ever met. He couldn't be more helpful and sweet. The location of the hotel is generally great. It's about a ten-minute walk from the train station and a one-minute walk from a shuttle bus that runs to the airport every 20 minutes. The hotel is on a quiet street but is a block from the bustling part of the city. The one thing I would note about location is that there are a fair number of street people who hang out at a corner near the hotel. But other than that, the location was great, the price was right and Toulouse is an active, beautiful city that should be on more American's tourism itineraries. We hope to return and would definitely stay at this hotel again. Good Indian restaurant across the street.

I really enjoyed Hôtel Héliot, the room was super clean, the owner is very nice, the breakfast options were great, and the location is very, very convenient, next top the Metro station and walking distance from the stop for the airport shuttle. A colleague ans I stated in the hotel while we attended a conference in Toulouse and it was an excellent experience. Also, the owner Fred, is fluent in English, Spanish and French.

Lovely hotel with great hosts.

Lovely hotel with wonderful hosts. Breakfast is good value at €9 per person and secure parking is available if required. The hotel is very close to the centre of town and within walking disrance of most, if not all of the major attractions; we walked to the botanical gardens and the quayside, both of which I would recommend. Toulouse however is very heavily populated with street drinkers and homeless people. Although these people are not threatening, having to walk past dozens of them in order to get anywhere is not nice and I found it quite upsetting. This in no way detracts from the hotel but reflects hugely on the local council and politicians and shows their inability to manage and contriol what to me appears to be a major problem, which certainly would deter me from visitiing Toulouse again in the future.

Simple well situated hotel.

Fred checked us in and was super friendly and helpful. It was very hot in Toulouse the day we arrived and the AC had a little trouble keeping up with the temperatures. The room was very clean and comfortable. This is a simple european style hotel with no elevator. We were on the third floor. Hotel is well situated but bordering on an area that is a little seedy (the walk in from the train station was through the ugly end of town). Walking distance to the lovely downtown of Toulouse. Be sure to take the city trolley tour! Hotel had good security.

All around great experience

Superb location in the center of Toulouse. Short 3 minute walk from the metro. Clean modern spacious room. Frederic was very friendly and helpful.

Very nice hotel in the heart of Toulouse

Hotel staff are very friendly, and always ready to help out (arrange taxis, restaurants, etc). Wifi allowed for very fast download speeds.

Allergy Sufferers Beware

My wife suffers from allergy so I contacted the proprietor of the hotel to explain that and to ensure that the bedding was hypo allergenic and the room suitable. Having been assured we should be okay I booked for two nights. We arrived late at night to a very small building and greeted by the proprietor in a reception area where the family's pet cat was present. Not a problem as long as you're not allergic to pet dander. After checking in we went straight to the room which seemed to be clean but there was a terrible smell which I suspect from looking at older posts (plenty of time to look at them in the night :/) was due to the building being old and the windows not opening. Would seem there had been mould issues in the past. Not being familiar with the city and with everything closed or soon to close we felt there was no choice but to stay. Within a short time of getting into bed my wife's air passages started to close up and I was concerned she might go into anaphylactic shock...very concerning given that I didn't know where the nearest hospital was. The best place for her was in the tiled en-suite bathroom away from the soft furnishings. From previous reviews it was evident that the proprietor was unlikely to refund the cost of the room for the second night so I contacted ebookers. They said that 24 hours notice had to be given for a refund. As expected the proprietor was defensive, rude and showed no sympathy for our situation. As expected no refund.

Central location hotel, excellent welcome.

The Manager couldn't have been more welcoming and the bedsit the hotel are extremely comfortable - excellent value for money.

Reception closes at 22:00 so you can't stay here if you arrive on a late flight. This is not at all easy to notice when looking at the listing and kind of strange for a central location in one of the biggest cities in France. Spotty WiFi (would stop working for 15 minutes or so about once a day) and no water boiler or fridge in the room. A bit annoying with only one key for a shared room, but not too bad. Otherwise an OK hotel.

Great stay

I had a great stay at Hotel Heliot. The owner is very nice and happy to provide suggestions on places to go/eat. My room was very spacious and clean. Breakfast was good - there are 2 options to choose from. The hotel is in a great location, easily walkable, less than 10min from the train station and less than 10min into the city centre.

Charming hotel, impeccably clean, ideal location

I really enjoyed staying at this superb hotel. You really can't beat the price, considering the perfect location, cleanliness and comfort of the room and friendly staff. If you're visiting Toulouse, I highly recommend staying at this charming place.

The hotel is in a convenient area in Toulouse, a quick walk to the Jean-Jaures metro and the center of town but down a side street and so not loud. The hotel is older but well maintained and my room was spacious. The proprietor was especially helpful.

Very nice hotel near downtown

We received a very warm welcome from the hotelier and his cat. The room was spacious with a roomy bathroom and comfortable beds. We were walking distance from some good restaurants and only a few steps from the bus-stop for the airport shuttle.

Great stay. Fantastic service, charming and warm. One caveat, if you are driving, check with the hotel on how best to approach and park. GPS is not very accurate.

Well placed, well run, well furnished.

Toulouse has a vibrant city centre and this hotel is well-placed to enjoy it. Rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated, and the bathroom is modern. There are perhaps a dozen rooms, total (alas, no elevator). The express breakfast was reasonably priced (3 euros for coffee and a croissant or pain au chocolat) and okay quality. Fellow who appeared to be the manager was very welcoming and helpful. I liked the fingerprint entry system on the mail door.

Great stay in Toulouse

I would stay in this small hotel again when my knee injury is better. It was difficult for me to walk up and down the stairs as there is no elevator. Sometime we miss these details in the hotel ads. Normally not a problem though for me. I did like the room and location for getting around and sight seeing.

Perfect place to stay almost in central Toulouse

We stayed 3 nights here and thought the hotel was perfect. Simply furnished it is spotlessly clean and very well maintained. The hotel owner speaks very good english and is so helpful and friendly it is like returning home each time one comes back to base. Very well located near to a metro station and the lovely pedestralised city centre. Highly recommended.

Great little hotel close to everything

Frederick was a wonderful, friendly host. The hotel was very close to public transport, cafes, restaurants and the main shopping area, but was still lovely and quiet at night! Both our bedroom and ensuite were large. Would certainly recommend to others. Make sure not to tread on the cat!

Good location in an interesting part of the city.

We enjoyed staying here. The host was really friendly and went out of his way to be helpful. It's in a great location, within easy walking distance from all the main attractions. The only criticisms: The windows were not able to be opened so we were dependent on the air conditioner for air circulation, and the pillows were a little uncomfortable. Other than that it was very good.

Euro 2016

Booked this hotel based on review and generally can be quite happy, was to watch a match of Euro 2016, the location is very good, you can reach by walking the station as well as the city centre; only negative note is that they will scan your fingers to access the hotel at night when there is no receptionist, the website should have warned of this procedure, an access card+Pin would have been much better than this procedure

Excellent hotel manager. Hotel is well situated right in the heart of the city. My husband and I were very pleased with our stay there.

Convenient location

Beds are comfortable-stayed one night (Thursday) and had a room in the back which was very quiet. Excited to return for my final night in Toulouse before flying back to the states. My return stay was for a Saturday night and I got a different room. This room was at the front of the Hotel. Unfortunately a completely opposite experience from my first night! Noise from the street was terrible and as I had to be up at 4am to get to the airport, it was highly frustrating to not get a good night's sleep. 22 hours later I arrived in the US having only brief moments of dozing off from the previous night. If you go make sure you request a room in the back if you want a quiet room!

The hotel is pleasant and comfortable. The best part was the wonderful gentleman who was managing during our stay on the 22nd and 23 of May 2015. When we arrived we were having difficulty parking. He came out of the hotel and spoke to a fellow who then moved his van so that we could get in. It was very good of him. And there were other times during our stay when he went out of his way to assist us. We'd go back just for that. Hotel Heliot is a good place with very good people working there. Our room was clean and comfortable as was all of the hotel.

Great small hotel - well located in quiet area

Excellent small and friendly hotel. Clean, spacious and comfortable rooms with good bathroom. Good buffet breakfast. English speaking owner and wife. Owner could not be more helpful. Hotel is short walk from station and centre of City and situated very close to Airport navette bus stop.

Just as good on a second visit

Our second visit Hotel Heliot again showed that this is a very suitable base for those staying in Toulouse for a few days wanting a quiet, central location. We were welcomed by the owner, Frederic, who as usual was very friendly and helpful. Our room on the first floor was comfortable, with a modern bathroom and was kept spotlessly clean, with daily service and new towels. For its central position, this small hotel is remarkably quiet being located in Rue Heliot just off the main avenue Jean Jaures and only two minutes from the Jean Jaures metro station. On this visit we used the new tram service from the airport. If you have lightweight, carry-on baggage, the tram T2 provides an efficient option for travel from the airport. The hotel is within walking distance of all Toulouse attractions and about 10 minutes from the main railway station. There are numerous excellent restaurants and supermarkets nearby. For lunch try the restaurants above the market Victor Hugo around 5 minutes from the hotel

Nice clean rooms - comfortable beds - could easily be 3 star hotel if there was an elevator. No real Libby area to hang out in or talk to other guests.

Good small hotel near centre of Toulouse

We selected this hotel as it was near the top of the Tripadvisor list and found it very convenient for our short stay in Toulouse. Hotel Heliot is centrally located in a quiet side street near to the Jean Jaures metro, with all the sights within easy walking distance. Then main railway station is about 10 minutes walk to the north. The airport bus stops conveniently within a minutes walk and there are numerous restaurants, cafes and supermarkets nearby. An excellent lunch can be obtained in one of the several restaurants located above the nearby Marche Victor Hugo. The hotel is in an old building and our room was on the second floor overlooking the front of the hotel. We had no problems with any noise during our stay. The room was quite large, comfortable and kept spotlessly clean. The bathroom was modern and the beds were very comfortable. Excellent air conditioning was available. The hotel owner, Frederic, was very attentive and vigilant, offering useful advice on any aspect of sightseeing in Toulouse and the surrounding area. If you are aged or infirm, be aware that there is no lift in the hotel. There are 20 steps per floor, so if your room is on the top storey you will be faced with 60 steps to climb! Although the rates are not cheap (Toulouse is not an inexpensive city) we found that Hotel Heliot provided a good base for our visit to Toulouse. We would certainly consider using it again on a future trip.
